Corporate Giants Chevron, Gildan, Russell Corporation, Hanes Brands, DIPPSA, Investing Deeper in Language Training.


During the April- June period, Harris Communications saw stronger language training investments from its large mutli-national clients Chevron Oil, Gildan Manufacturing, Russell Corporation, Hanes Brands, and national oil refinery DIPPSA.

Carlos Caballero, Russell Corporation manager, commented, “We have increased our training budget with Harris and expanded our program to more than sixty employees. We are very pleased with our results and the quality of instruction.”

And although the national economy continues to face challenges of pent up demand, Honduras continues to recover from last year’s political crisis, as manufactures like Canadian owned Gildan and US multi-national Hanes Brands continue to increase spend levels for on-site programs. Professional Hondurans Training with Harris to Obtain
Canadian Work Visas

Canada is one of the few countries in the Western World that is actively looking for immigrants to fill highly skilled managerial positions in all provinces ,and many Honduran professional are taking advantage of this unique immigration program. One pre-requisite is to speak English and pass the International English Language Test, I.E.L.T.S and Harris Communications is actively preparing students to take the test given in Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador.

The I.E.L.T.S examination in comprehensive in scope and includes four sections which includes, orals, reading, writing and speaking. Dr. Hector Alvarado, who has just completed his test and was awarded his immigrant visa commented, “I was very pleased with my Harris instructor who prepared me to take the test and familiarize me with the various English Accents. Harris Communications Begins 2010 with Strong Demand from New Clients Frito Lay, ELCOSA and Farmacia Simán.


2010 begins with strong demand for language training from new corporate clients Frito Lay, a division of Pepsico, ELCOSA, Electricidad de Cortes and independent power producer that sells elctricity to ENEE, and national champion pharmacy giant, Siman, with more than twenty retail stores throughout the north coast of Honduras. All programs begin in January and are under contract until 2011.

Digicel Launches Multi-Language Training Program in La Ceiba.

Digicel, the largest mobile telecommunications operator in the Caribbean and a recent new entrant to the Central American mobile market has selected Harris Communications La Ceiba to train managers, supervisors and other frontline personnel English and Spanish. The programs will include Rosetta Stone® English I/II, Dynamic Conversational Business English® and Rosetta Stone® Spanish. The courses are scheduled to run through 2010.

Harris Communications Now Found on Facebook.

Harris Communications Honduras can now be found on Facebook, the worlds leading social network website, with its new pages being launched the first days of October.

The site which contains fan registration, facebook photos of the centers with hundreds of students plus videos showcasing Harris Communications’ instructional brands Bedit Vasquez, who heads VCI Advertising, commented, “We are very please at how students are using Facebook and its extensional link from the Harris Communications official website.

Industrial Embroiderers, Members of the Kattan Group, Selects Harris Communications.


Industrial Embroiderers, members of the Kattan Group, which does silk screening and embroidery work for many labels including Nike, Old Navy/Gap, Tommy, Polo Jeans, Hanes, Osh Kosh, and others has selected Harris Communications to train key staff in Business English. The program, contracted until 2010, will train upwards of 40-managers, supervisors and line staff.

The Kattan Group, which employs approximately 10,000 people, has companies in manufacturing, commercial real estate, tele-communications, transportation and is actively involved in socially responsibility programs in Honduras. The Kattan Group is ranked as a “best company to work” and sets the standard for excellence in the manufacturing industry.

Despite Turmoil in Honduras, Hondurans Continue to Make Progress.


Despite the political turmoil in Honduras, La Pensa’s supplement Q’hubo, found time to feature Harris Communications as more Hondurans retrain themselves as they seek better employment and competitive advantages in the workplace.

The article went on to say that the reason most multinational companies ask their employees to speak English is because English is the language most used for international trade at the moment. And although English isn't the most spoken language in the world, in fact it is third, after Mandarin Chinese and Hindi, it has the largest number of secondary speakers, i.e. people who have learned English at school or elsewhere as a second language.

Concretos Eterna, part of the IESSA Group, which produces pre-mixed concrete, piping, and construction blocks for many of the largest commercial construction projects in Honduras, has selected Harris Communications to train various mid-level managers in a multi-group corporate training program featuring RosettaStone.

Alcoa Teams Up with Harris to Train Business English to Key Staff.


Alcoa, the world leader in the production of primary aluminum, aerospace, automotive commercial transportation has team upped with Harris Communications to train essential personnel business English for 2009.

Honduran Nursing Team Begins T.O.E.F.L Training as New Orleans Nursing Project Nears Completion.

The fourteen nurses that began their English training in  June of 2008,  and were awared pre-approved visas from the United States to work in the city of New Orleans, made possible by philantropist and community leader Cesar Burgos, are now preparing to take the Internet based T.O.E.F.L exam on April 4.

Jenny Aguillar, registered nurse from Hospital del Valle commented, “We have been studying at Harris since we were beginners and at last we are about to achieve our goal and take the TOEFL test. I speak for all the nurses to express how grateful we are to Billy Levia, director of the project, and the Harris instructors who have worked hard with all of us to get us to the level needed to take the test.”

Harris Communications Honduras Adds Rosetta Stone®
to their Training Brand Portfolio.

Harris Communications has added Rosetta Stone®, a global leader in language learning software, to its training portfolio, to drive three custom built language laboratories in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. The Rosetta Stone® labs will initially feature Basic English and Spanish I and II, as additional languages will be rolled-out shortly during 2009.

For Second Consecutive Year, Harris Communications Receives Distinguished Service Pin from Habitat of Humanity.

For the second consecutive year, Harris Communications has received Habitat's distinguished service pin for community activism as Habitat celebrates the construction of house 7000 for financially challenged families in Honduras.

Belinda Morales, President of the board of directors of Habitat commented, "We are grateful to Harris Communications for providing scholarships to our executive staff and thank their students and teachers for providing food, gifts and other support throughout the year."

This year's event was significant as Habitat for Humanity completed its 7000th home in Honduras providing  families decent, affordable housing, as the worldwide housing crisis remains huge especially in Central America. Robert Harris Receives Publishing Commision from C&J Associates.

Robert Harris, the founder of Harris Communications, has received a publishing commision from C&J Associates to write two new textbooks over the next 12-months with the first being launched in January 2009. The texbooks, will be directed toward an ESL audience and marks a different direction for Mr. Harris.

New Orleans Nursing Project Selects Harris Communications to Train Nursing Team in Honduras.

Harris Communications has been selected to train 14-nurses, from six local Honduran hospitals, business English followed by preparatory work to take the Test for International Communications (T.O.I.E.C) at the Catholic University in San Pedro Sula.       

Upon completion of the test and passing of Registered Nursing Licensing Exam, NCLEX, the nurses and their families, have been provided pre-approved visas to work in the city of New Orleans made possible by Honduran born Cesar Burgos, philanthropist and community leader, who is a member of the Bring New Orleans Back Commission (BNOBC).

“This is a significant opportunity that does two important things. First, it allows professional Hondurans the opportunity to work in the United States, and second, helps the city of New Orleans, which is suffering from a shortage of nurses post Katrina.”

Weakening Economy in the USA, has no Impact on Training Investment in Honduras.

With the softening of the US economy training investment budgets in Honduras appear untouched at the present time. Strong demand for vocational, soft-skills and language training is still evident as multi-national US firms continue spending in these critical training categories.

Indie Publishing Company, C&J Associates, Recertifies Harris Communications Honduras.

C&J Associates, the company that publishes Dynamic Conversational Business English, has recertified Harris Communications’ two centers in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. As part of the certification, all instructors were required to pass academic specialization, including courses covering language; the grammatical, phonological, and semantic systems of English; the process of language learning (both first and second languages); and language in context with the Dynamic Conversational curriculum.

Remote Communities of Honduras Participating in Pilot English Program at Harris Communications La Ceiba

In an effort to allow more individuals access to English training who have never studied the language before, Harris Communications La Ceiba has launched a pilot program called “English 1.1”.  As a result many students are registering from remote parts of Honduras, including  individuals from La Moquitia, Sava, Guanaja, Roatan and Utila who come to La Ceiba to study.

John Marinakis, Harris Communications’ regional training manager commented, “English 1.1 is designed for adults who have never studied English in their primary or secondary education. The program intergrates the very basics of the language, and provides students with the confidence and skills they need to move forward. And since many of these individuals come from remote towns or departments within Honduras, it is very satisfying to see and measure their progress.”

Robert Harris Accepts Position as Chief Operating Officer of IPC.

Robert Harris, the founder of Harris Communications, has accepted the position as Chief Operating Officer at Instituto Politecnico Centroamericano, IPC, in San Pedro Sula effective February 1, 2008. The Chief Operating Officer provides management oversight, direction and leadership for the development of superior education and is responsible for ensuring that IPC meets its goals and mission established by its Board of Directors who are members from Gildan Activewear, SABMiller, Elcatex, Zip Bufalo, Breakwater, among others.

Harris Communications Begins 15th Year Serving Honduras

January,  2008,  marks Harris Communications’ fifteenth year of operations in Honduras as the country’s leading provider of English,  management and specialized communications training. Founded in 1993 by Robert and Karla Harris, the company has grown with centers located in San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba,  and a strategic alliance with Instituto Politecnico Centroamericana.  Harris Communications Honduras projects that it will teach to nearly 3600-students in 2008.

Harris Communications Honduras Holds 2008 Goals and Targets Workshop.

Harris Communications Honduras held its 2008 goals and targets workshop for its key managers and customer service staff as part of the company’s own performance management system that was implemented through its relationship with SABMiller Honduras six years ago. The workshop focused on student registration targets, new course offerings  for 2008 and defined specific KPIs that will be measured throughout the year.

Performance Management Takes Hold in Maersk Honduras

After six months of working with Harris Communications, performance management and performance culture has taken hold in Maersk Honduras, the largest shipping and logistics container company in the country. Nora Cabrera, The Human Resources Director commented, “ The appplication of performance management could not have been possible without the entire Harris team, who all served as catalysts in changing our organizational behavior.”

Channel 11’s Revista Esta Mañana sent a film crew to Instituto Politecnico Centroamericano and stopped by one of Harris Communications’ classrooms for an up close and personal view of learning English as a second language.

Nora Erazo, who interviewed both students and instructors commented, “ It was a unique experience watching the students interact with Harris’ dynamic instructors. They motivated the class, got people speaking and their accents were clear and easy to imitate.”

Global Freight and Logistic Company Selects Harris Communications as the Catalyst for Moving Towards a Perfomance Driven Organization.

on SABMiller Honduras Imperial Video

In an effort to promote the success of Cerverceria’s brand portfolio, SABMiller Honduras, working with McCann Erickson, casted Robert Harris to appear in their :60 commercial  featuring Imperial,  SAB’s  Honduran lager which was awarded three prestigious gold medals at the World Beer Championships held in the USA, Australia and Belgium.  The video will be aired at the annual sales convention in May, 2007.

Julissa Lopez, the Imperial brand manager commented, “Working with Harris Communications always adds a dynamic punch to our projects when they collaborate with us. And this time we added a new twist having Harris speak Spanish which he did with energy and enthusiasm.”

Harris Communications and Polytechnic Institute of Central America – IPC – have begun the first trimester of 2007 with nearly 600 students attending IPC’s main campus located in San Pedro Sula.    

IPC is the leading textile, electromechanical  university  in Honduras and is sponsored by the giants of industry which includes Gildan, SABMiller, Cargill,  The World Bank,  Banco Ficohsa,  The Lovable Group, Zip Buffalo,  Kattan Group, Clariant  and CABEI.

First Session of Y07 begin Successfully in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba

 

The first session Y07 at Harris Communications began on January 29 and February 3, 2007 with nearly 555 students registering in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. Students were able to register for Dynamic Conversational English all levels, Focus on Business, private instruction and executive coaching.

Harris Communications was selected as the only educational provider to attend the first annual job fair sponsored by the Honduran Manufacturers Association and the Chamber of Commerce. With more than 50-multinational firms represented from all industries more than 10,000 people came to the San Pedro Sula Exposition Center over three days seeking employment.

Cayman Ambassador Visits Harris Communications La Ceiba

The Grand Cayman Ambassador, Debbie Pritzi,  took time from her busy schedule to visit Harris Communications La Ceiba and talk education with José Zambrano, the regional manager.

With more than 5000 Hondurans working and living on the island it is a mandatory entry requirement that people who come to Grand Cayman arrive speaking English. “With direct flights from La Ceiba to Grand Cayman our office encourages that people learn business English skills if they want to work on the island. President Ricardo Maduro and Robert Harris Meet at IPC Inauguration

President Ricardo Maduro and Robert Harris share a moment together at the inauguration of IPC in San Pedro Sula. The President, who once was a teacher, said, “If our country is going to raise the standard of living for our people,  the fastest way out of poverty is through education.”

 

Indeed, Harris Communications presence at IPC, Institute Polytechnic of Central America, is an important component in teaching young people how to speak English and obtain employment.

Harris Communications Featured on “Abriendo Brecha” Honduras’ Leading Television Magazine Show

Abriendo Brecha, Honduras highest rated magazine show, filmed a segment about how Harris Communications is helping Honduras by providing English training. Camera crews went inside the classroom, interviewed teachers and students and got an insiders view of language learning. Nitza Calderon, The Diane Sawyer of Honduras, got into the action as she participated in a speaking exercise where she role-played an American reporter. “Asking questions is what I do, but it was certainly more difficult to express them in a different language. I really enjoyed the process and the energy of the trainers at Harris.” Commented Ms. Calderon.

The leading newspaper magazine of Honduras, “Business” profiled Mr. Harris and discussed the publication of his three textbooks and the background of obtaining his copyright.
